Founded by Jefferey Means, Sound Icon is a Boston-based, sinfonietta-sized ensemble committed to performing
fundamental new music repertoire from the past few decades. Info can be found

The Two Composers:

Composer/performers Mark Berger and Ketty Nez joined forces in the spring of 2009 for a series of concerts
mixing the new with the established, including their own music and the world premiere of Boston University faculty
Richard Cornell's "Scherzo." Upcoming projects include new commissions and performances at MIT and Clark

Street Talk Suite Talk:

A powerful collaborative project combining solo violin/viola, seven dancers and seven poet-rappers.  The
choreography is by Anna Myer and the score is by composer Jakov Jakoulov.  The premiere performance was
filmed and two video excerpts are posted online.

Upcoming Events:

4/9 & 10/11 - Worcester Chamber Music Society presents a concert of Czech composers, including works by
Martinu, Schulhoff and Dvorak. The concert will feature the premiere of my arrangement for soprano and chamber
ensemble of Song to the Moon from Dvorak's Rusalka.  4/9 - 7:30pm, Assumption College Chapel, Worcester, MA;
4/10 - 3pm, Oakham Congregational Church, Oakham, MA.


4/8/11 - Dinosaur Annex presents the music of George Lewis.  Details here.

4/3/11 - Middlesex Community College faculty concert. Federal Building, Lowell, MA

Decompression Chamber Music presents an interactive concert exploring my Notturno for string quartet.  
The program will also include works by Bartok, Schubert and Mozart.  6pm,
One Longfellow Square, Portland, ME.

3/26/11 -
Sound Icon, one of the newest and most exciting new music ensembles in Boston, will present the local
premiere of Gerard Grisey's Les Espaces Acoustiques (I get to play the Prologue!) along with music of Joshua
Fineberg.  8pm, Boston University CFA Concert Hall.

3/22/11 -
Ludovico Ensemble, contemporary ensemble in residence at the Boston Conservatory, will present three
world premieres by Mischa Salkind-Pearl, Andy Vores and Rudolph Rojahn. 8pm, The Boston Conservatory, Seully
Hall.

String Trio No. 2  has been awarded the 2009 League of Composers/ISCM prize.

7/7/09, 7/10/09 & 7/11/09 - Music at Eden's Edge commissioned and premiered
Spell for flute and string trio.

5/16/09 & 5/17/09 -
Worcester Chamber Music Society presented my trio for viola, cello and bass, Upon a Wheel

5/1/09 - Awarded the Ira Gershwin Prize by Brandeis University.

3/09 - 4/09 -
Music at Eden's Edge presented the first movement of my work in progress, Spell for flute and string
trio, as part of its 2009 Youth Chamber Concerts - a series of free concerts performed in public elementary
schools of a program entitled "The Composer in Our Midst."
